Pack Conservation Project

posted Apr 8, 2013, 6:40 PM by Matthew Caillouet

Good afternoon everyone!

This is a quick reminder that we are having our April Pack meeting this Saturday, April 13th at 10am!  The boys will be building wood duck boxes and learning about wood ducks and their habitat.  We are very thankful for the opportunity to have Mr. Tom Dufour with Delta Waterfowl assist us with this project.

We will meet at St. Jude in the parking lot and leave promptly at 9:15am.  We will travel to Central to Mr. Dufour's workshop where he will give a little information about the wood duck and conservation and the importance of projects like the one we will be doing.  The meeting should last about 1-1.5 hours and will cost $5 per scout to cover materials.

The boys will cover several requirements needed for all cub scout levels and for the World Conservation patch, so please make every effort to attend.  We look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!  Please feel free to contact myself or Matt Caillouet if you have any questions!

We will be constructing 8 nesting boxes, reviewing the ecology of the wood duck species, and trying our best at calling some wood ducks in to the pond.

This event will be the first of two.  The second part of the project will be to actually install the nesting boxes at a place and time to be determined.

This will be a great time for the boys to learn a bit out wildlife conservation, and to work on a "hands-on" project to impact our environment.  This will count towards electives, rank achievements and the World Conservation Award.  (depending on your rank)

(Don't worry Tigers!  The second part of the project will be completed after you turn into Wolves)

Saturday, April 13th @ 10:00am.
